Physical Exam and Hand Held Doppler Exam

Careful history and physical examination is performed by Dr. Muasher followed by a vein examination in the standing position using a hand held doppler.

Venous Duplex Study

Mapping of your veins and identifying sites of pathology (broken valves) is done by a registered vascular technologist proficient in evaluating patients with varicose vein disease. This is a much more detailed and careful study that involves more than just a routine venous duplex study to check for deep vein thrombosis.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy for spider veins is done by using a minute needle with special medications that close the veins or superficial laser to block them by heat.

These office procedures have little discomfort and potential side effects. These are usually temporary and can include browny discoloration, matting (development of minute vessels at site of blocked spider vein), rare blister formation and allergic reactions.

EVLT - FDA Approved

Is the occlusion of the leaking large veins using laser wire which is introduced through a small needle stick in the leg under ultrasound guidance. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour in the office with a mild sedative. The patient goes home immediately and can return to work in 1 to 3 days when discomfort (if any) subsides. Potential side effects may include bruising, transient numbness and achiness and rarely deep vein thrombosis.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Using ultrasound, the larger leaking veins under the skin or deeper can be injected with sclerosing agents to block them. This is an in office procedure with minimal discomfort.

Transilluminated Power Phlebectomy (TRIVEX)

Surgical excision under general anesthesia, which is done in the Surgi-Center.

Micro Phlebectomy
Removal of the veins through tiny incisions without the use of stitches that is done in association with EVLT or TRIVEX.

Compression Therapy

Mainstay of managing veins, usually alone if no other procedures are desired or used in conjunction with EVLT or Sclerotherapy for a short period of time.
